Exterior Trim Films

3M™ Exterior Trim Films (ETF) provide a consistent high-gloss metallic or high-gloss black finish on plastic exterior trim parts, including acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), thermoplastic olefin (TPO) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). These films can replace high-gloss black painting, heavier formed metal parts, such as stainless steel, and more costly chrome-plated metal and plastic parts. 3M offers them in various trim level grades without the need to change the base part design or manufacturing process.

3M™ Exterior Trim Film FPS6505J
Designed specifically for heat bonding to stainless steel via roll-forming, this high-gloss black polyurethane film is a cost-effective alternative to stamped stainless steel. The tough, durable film provides a consistent finish, even when parts are made from different substrates, and withstands prolonged exterior weathering.

3M™ Exterior Trim Film FPO9101JH
Ideal for decorative accents on exterior trim components such as window seals and roof ditch moldings, this high-gloss metallic polyurethane film is designed for injection molding processes. The functional urethane film layer resists abrasion, chemicals and prolonged exposure to accelerated weathering.

Paint Protection Film

3M provides adhesive paint protection films to protect automotive paint and other vulnerable surfaces from chips, scratches and weathering, without the need for attaching thick and distracting coverings or the added process times associated with liquid coatings. These extremely durable, transparent protective films are available in die-cut parts or parts on rolls, with or without premask. They are flexible and conformable for even the most complex automotive surfaces. The films feature a 2 mil acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive, which makes the film fast and simple to apply and delivers excellent peel adhesion.

This transparent adhesive film is comprised of a tough, 6 mil polyurethane base and clear polyurethane topcoat tested for resistance to weathering, shrinkage and elongation.

3M™ Paint Protection Film PUL2008, 10 mil, Transparent
This transparent adhesive film is comprised of a tough, 8 mil polyurethane base and clear polyurethane topcoat tested for resistance to weathering, shrinkage and elongation.

3M™ Paint Protection Film PUL2012, 14 mil, Transparent
This transparent adhesive film is comprised of a tough ,12 mil polyurethane base and clear polyurethane topcoat tested for resistance to weathering, shrinkage and elongation.

Paint Replacement Film

3M applies our wealth of experience in films to help automotive OEM and Tier suppliers achieve differentiating designs without the masking, secondary painting, baking and demasking, or the process times associated with painted designs. Specifically developed for blackout exterior automotive door and body applications, these extremely durable films can be individually designed and are available in premasked and die-cut parts for a precise fit. These films feature an air-bleedable release liner that creates microchannels in a modified pressure-sensitive adhesive, which makes for smooth, fast application without bubbling.

This 5 mil, PVC blackout film is excellent for the trim around automotive side glass. The low-gloss (30% reflectivity) black appearance integrates into vehicle designs.

This 6.2 mil, PVC blackout film for the trim around automotive side glass features a high-gloss (90% reflectivity) black appearance and an outer clear coat.
