Acrylic Foam Tapes

3M™ Acrylic Foam Tapes and Acrylic Plus Tapes are go-to solutions for automotive bonding and joining. Conformable, viscoelastic foam cores provide stress relaxation under high application loads, and under normal conditions maintain tight bond lines. These tapes have been developed specifically for attaching exterior trim and other parts to automotive paint surfaces. These versatile tapes can also allow designers to use thinner components, since they can eliminate the need for ultrasonic welding.

3M™ Acrylic Plus Tape PT1100, Dark Gray, 1.14 mm
3M™ Acrylic  Plus Tape PT1100 is developed specifically for attaching brackets and other rigid exterior parts to automotive substrates. It features a 1.14 mm acrylic foam core with a different adhesive on each side. The liner-side adhesive is formulated for very high initial and final adhesion to glass, as well as scratch- and mar-resistant paint systems. The non-liner-side adhesive is excellent for bonding to automotive trim and other components. An adhesion promoter may be required for some applications.

3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape 5344, Gray, 1.14 mm
Great for sensor attachment, as well as attaching roof ditch and body side moldings, wheel flares and appliques, 3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape 5344 is a 1.14 mm tape that provides a balance of strength and conformability. It has two different adhesives. The liner-side adhesive is formulated for bonding to automotive paint surfaces, and the non-liner-side adhesive bonds to exterior trim parts. An adhesion promoter may be required for some applications.

Acrylic Foam Tapes for Primerless Attachment

This range of 3M™ Acrylic Foam Tapes (AFT) allows for the installation of exterior sensor brackets to automotive paint without the time and expense of adhesion promoters. All tapes feature viscoelastic acrylic foam cores for excellent stress relaxation under high application loads and tight bond-line aesthetics. Adhesives are formulated for specific substrates and for robust performance, even on complex contours and difficult automotive surfaces. These solutions can also allow designers to use thinner components, since they can eliminate the need for ultrasonic welding.

3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape PX5005
Great for bonding sensors, as well as claddings, body side moldings, rocker panels, running boards and wheel flares. 3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape PX5011 has been tested specifically for use on thermoplastic olefin (TPO) and other low surface energy (LSE) substrates. The 1.14 mm tape is ideal for easy- and medium-difficulty paint systems and features high temperature (up to 80°C) holding power on low surface energy plastics such as TPO, polypropylene (PP) and PP/ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM). The liner is silicone-coated on both sides for easy release.

3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape PX5008, Dark Gray, 0.8 mm
This .8 mm tape features a double-sided adhesive that delivers robust initial tack and high adhesion build to many LSE substrates. It is ideal for easy- and medium-difficulty paint systems and features high temperature (up to 80°C) holding power on LSE plastics such as TPO, PP & PP/EPDM. The liner is silicone-coated on both sides for easy release.

3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape PX5015
Tested specifically for excellent peel adhesion on TPO and other LSE substrates, this 1.52 mm tape features an adhesive formulated specifically for high adhesion to LSE and MSE surfaces on both sides of a viscoelastic foam core. This core conforms well, even to complex geometries. It is engineered for stress relaxation when exposed to high stress loads and maintains bond line aesthetics under normal stress loads.

Camera and Sensor Brackets

3M provides our 3M™ Structural Bonding Tapes (SBT) applied to single-function and multi-function sensor brackets at the Tier level. Tier suppliers can improve OEM efficiency by supplying tape-attached brackets for cameras, mirror buttons and rain sensors. Hardware applies quickly by pressure-sensitive adhesive and is heat-cured to a semi-structural bond at the Tier. 3M tape-attached sensor bracket systems are compatible with manual and automated manufacturing processes and commercially available autoclave processes.

Mirror Buttons with 3M™ Structural Bonding Tape
Featuring 3M™ Structural Bonding Tape, these tape-attached mirror buttons eliminate the need for fixturing during cure. Pre-applied adhesive helps increased manufacturing efficiency for automated and manual systems. The tape adhesive cures to semi-structural strength during most windshield autoclave processes.

Rain Sensor Brackets with 3M™ Structural Bonding Tape
Rain Sensor Brackets with 3M™ Structural Bonding Tape help improve process efficiency by supplying pre-taped components ready for application to windshields. They feature 3M™ Structural Bonding Tape with an easy-to-apply pressure-sensitive adhesive, which heat-cures to semi-structural strength. The tape color changes from black to matte gray after curing.
